In April 2011 we saw the increase in SDLT on purchases over £1,000,000 from 1% to 5% which might have held sales back in April (but didn't seem to) and perhaps in May (which does seem to have dipped). Either way, those arguing that the SDLT changes in the most recent Budget and in particular the impact on sales to "non-natural" individuals has been a problem have taken a beating this month. There is no sign that the hike to 15% for these buyers has had any adverse impact and only time will tell if the anticipated drop in transactions does materialise as it certainly doesn't look like prices have checked.
